Corporate Responsibility
Air Transat Cargo is a division of Air Transat, a subsidiary of Transat A.T. Inc., one of the largest international tour operators in the world. Transat and Air Transat are committed to making their operation economically, socially and environmentally more sustainable, and to encouraging responsible behaviour by their employees, customers, suppliers and partners, in order to maximize the benefits and minimize the negative impact of the travel and tourism industry, especially in tourism destinations.
On the environment, the primary objective consists in reducing our consumption of resources and the environmental footprint of our operations as much as possible. At Air Transat, this effort has led to several initiatives, including the development of an environmental management system. Air Transat regards reduction of its environmental footprint a top priority and is in the process of obtaining LEED EB certification, the most rigorous environmental building standard that exists, for its head office. Air Transat has received the Ici On Recycle certification for recycling more than 60% of its waste material.
Air Transat has also developed and implemented a strict fuel-management program in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions stemming from its flights. The measures involve flight operations, flight planning, ground operations, engineering, and more. We estimate that the program has enabled us to reduce overall consumption and emissions by 5%. Unlike our Canadian counterparts, we have been measuring and disclosing the greenhouse gas emissions generated by Air Transat’s flight operations for several years.
Air Transat and its employees are very proud to be involved in a number of humanitarian aid efforts in Canada, but also in the numerous destinations served by Transat. Air Transat partners with The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada and SOS Children’s Villages through its “Small Change, Big Hearts” program. Air Transat routinely transports cargo at no cost for humanitarian causes.
